First consider how you have applied this truth in your personal life. Are there circumstances similar to those your student experiences? For e.g. If your student is a freshman in university and you desire to teach him to walk by faith, sharing your own experiences of learning to juggle schoolwork and ministry will be most convincing. It suggests to him that "If you could do it, then so can I." But if you can't find common situations, don't beat yourself up. More importantly, don't lie. Not lying includes not making yourself sound more terrific than you were. Remember, your students will judge the truth of your words against the truth they see in your life. Just share your personal experience and leave it to your student to work out parallels.
